Chabot, Bush, and Iraq War Lies, Part I: A Must Read

We all know Chabot supports President Bush's policies 90% of the time. What I didn't know is that Chabot supported Bush's Iraq War lies 100% of the time. Here's an amazing story that I still can't believe is true....

Almost a year ago to the day, Rep. Steve Chabot and ten other Republican Congressmen wrote a joint, steamy letter to the Nation Institute (of The Nation political magazine). The letter concerned an award the Nation gave to former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, who is the husband of former CIA undercover officer Valerie Plame.

We all know the background of this story, but for those of you who don’t, here’s a quick recap: during the lead up to the Iraq war, Bush wanted evidence Saddam was renewing his nuclear program. He sent U.S. Ambassador Joe Wilson to Africa to see if evidence linking Saddam to nuclear material in Niger was accurate. Wilson came home and said no, there is no credible evidence. However, Bush then used the Niger “connection” as justification for war during his State of the Union speech at the Union Terminal in Cincy. This made Wilson mad, so he went public and told everyone Bush is full of crap. Enter Wilson’s wife, Valerie Plame, a covert CIA operative. As payback for Wilson telling the truth, Karl Rove/Scooter Libby leaked her undercover status to journalist Robert Novak, who printed it. So the Bush administration disrespected Joe Wilson for telling the truth and destroyed his wife’s career in the CIA which jeopardized her contacts and ultimately the security of the United States. Whew…

Now enter Steve Chabot. On July 22, 2004 Chabot and ten other Congressman wrote a nasty letter to The Nation because the magazine honored Ambassador Joseph Wilson with an award for truth-telling and public service. Chabot didn’t like the fact that Joe Wilson was spoiling Bush’s false case for war. Chabot was outraged. He wanted America to go to war, even if there was no credible reason for doing so.

So what did Chabot’s letter say? In a nutshell, it said the Nation was “snookered” and Wilson was a “liar” and the award to him should be revoked. (Full text).

Our Congressman who serves on the House International Relations Committee is an idiot.

He knows nothing about foreign policy, national security, or intelligence. He knows nothing about the logic of war, relevance of international law, or the meaning of peace.

At the beginning of this race, I started this blog primarily because I knew OH-01 was going to be a nationally-watched race. I didn’t think Chabot was an idiot; instead, just an ineffective radical Congressman. Now I believe he is both.

The tone of voice, the deceptive use of bits of information, and the overall meaning of his letter to The Nation is ridiculous. Does he really think the American people – and the voters of the First District – will support wars regardless of their meanings? Does he really think that the best way to protect America is by discrediting a career diplomat and CIA operative who stood up for truth? Does he really love President Bush enough to lie for him?!

Not only should Congressman Chabot issue an apology to the National Black Farmers Association for being a jerk to them, but he should apologize to the Nation magazine, U.S. Ambassador Joe Wilson, CIA operative Valerie Plame, and his constituents in the First District.

While John Cranley’s pledges add up, Steve Chabot’s apology list gets longer.

That letter seemed childish. Is this a normal gesture Steve Chabot makes? Is he mad at Deep Throat too?

NOT surprising from Representative Combover. Where is the Cranley team on this? They had Richard Clarke in town, someone now needs to call Joe Wilson. I am sure he would be more than happy to help outst Chabothead.

Chabot lied about the war. Then he tried to cover it up.

The only jerk around here is the guy running this lame excuse for a blog.

But... but... Chabothead walks around and gives cups... doesn't that count for something?

Nevermind the getting-nothing-done-for-his-district attitude while he lies for Bush and Big Oil.

The West Side will have its revenge on Steve Chabot.
